Below is a list of questions frequently asked:
What are the different types of services you offer?
I provide manuscript, proposal and cover letter writing and editing services to meet the standards and requirements of literary agents and publishers.
What editing services do you provide?
I provide thorough editing services to prepare your manuscript for publication. I will address grammar, spelling, punctuation, tense, style, flow, word/phrase overuse, inappropriate vocabulary, repetition and sentence structure during copyediting or line editing. Two or three passes between the editor and author are common, during which the author accepts or rejects suggested amends. Developmental issues sometimes emerge during this process, which involve a combination of fixing, building and further firming up of anything uneven.
The most in-depth editorial normally involves both a copyedit and a heavier edit involving rewriting. This requires the hand of a highly skilled editor who will unpick and revise structural or character issues to improve the entire book and prevent it from falling through the reader’s hands. Further comments will be added that highlight red flags and areas to explore.
What is the editing process?
I use MS Word’s Track Changes feature; this system allows you to review each change made by me and you can easily accept or reject them. Where necessary, I add Comments to highlight areas that might require your input.
What proofreading services do you provide?
I provide proofreading services where I check for errors and correct spelling, punctuation and grammar only. A final proof should confirm no errors at all. This final and lightest form of editing comes last in the process. In the industry, proofreading happens just before the text goes into production. At LGC, this happens before we submit your final polished items and before we start submissions into the industry.
My manuscript is on a specialised subject area. How do I know you will edit it correctly?
If I don’t have the expertise to edit your book, I will tell you and introduce you to the right editor for you from the pool of skilled writers at The London Ghostwriting Company. LGC writers have both substantial general expertise and key specialities. The organisation includes NY Times and Sunday Times bestselling authors and critically acclaimed and commercially successful writers who are well published and represented by top literary agents.
What are your areas of expertise?
I have worked on a wide variety of projects, but mostly young adult fiction, memoirs, biographies and natural health-related books.
Can I see your previous work?
Yes, I can provide samples of my previous work on request.
Do you help with submissions to agents and publishers?
Yes. I work with The London Ghostwriting Company to submit internationally to literary agents and publishers and I continue to provide the support you might need.
What will you be submitting?
Every literary agency or publishing house has its own submissions criteria or set of guidelines and we will introduce your project appropriately with the right documents that they require.
Will I need a cover letter?
Yes, I will tailor your cover letter appropriately. We will pitch your project to the industry in the best way possible to increase the chance of the project being considered.
Is my information secure with you?
I respect the confidentiality of your work and information and provide a confidentiality agreement (NDA) before any professional relationship begins. Only I will have access to your information unless someone else is brought on to the project by agreement.
